If you're in the market for a concrete batching plant, you've probably run into the same question everyone asks: should I buy new or used?
There's no single right answer. It depends on your budget, your timeline, where the plant is going, and how long you plan to run it. I've been involved in relocating over 50 plants across 15 countries, and I've seen both scenarios work out great—and blow up spectacularly.
Here's what I've learned.

I'll be straight with you: new plants aren't for everyone. But there are situations where buying new is the smarter call.
If your project has a hard deadline—say, a highway contract with penalties for late delivery—a new plant is the safer bet. There's no hidden wear, no mystery wiring, no corroded silo that shows up after the first rain. Everything is under warranty. If something breaks, the manufacturer sends someone.
New plants come with modern control systems, better energy efficiency, and automation features that older plants just don't have. Things like remote monitoring, auto-calibration, and batch reporting are standard on new HZS120 and HZS180 models. On a used plant from 2018, you're lucky if the PLC still has support.
Banks and equipment financiers prefer new equipment. You'll get better terms, lower interest rates, and longer repayment periods on a new plant. Used equipment financing exists, but the rates are higher and the terms shorter.
That said, I've seen used plants save people a lot of money—when they know what they're doing.
This is the obvious one. A used HZS120 can cost a third of what a new one runs. If your project has thin margins or you're just getting started, that price difference could be the difference between breaking ground or sitting on the sidelines.
New plants take 30 to 60 days just to manufacture, plus shipping time. A used plant that's already in service can be dismantled, shipped, and reinstalled in 3 to 4 weeks. We've done this before—dismantled an HZS90 in Lagos on a Tuesday, had it running in Kano three weeks later.
If the plant is only needed for 2-3 years—like a dam project or a mining operation—a used plant makes more sense. You get in cheap, run it hard, and either sell it afterward or move it to the next site.
I'm not going to sugarcoat this. Buying a used plant has real risks, and I've seen people get burned.
Mixer condition is the biggest gamble. The mixer is the heart of the plant. Worn mixer blades, a damaged mixing arm, or a gearbox that's been running on low oil can cost you $5K–$15K to fix—after you've already paid for the plant and shipped it to your site.
Structural corrosion is another one. Cement silos that look fine from the outside can have internal corrosion that shortens their lifespan by years. We always recommend a thorough inspection before buying any used plant. If the seller won't let you inspect, walk away.
Documentation is often missing. Wiring diagrams, maintenance records, spare parts lists—these are frequently lost when a plant changes hands. Without them, troubleshooting becomes guesswork. We've had to reverse-engineer control panels more than once.
Whether you buy new or used, the relocation is the critical part. And that's where we come in.
